pI have never been much of a writer. I didn't mind English at school and I very much love reading but actually getting my feelings out of my head and onto paper was always a bit of a challenge. So it has come as a bit of a surprise to me recently that I have these poems in my head that I just need to write down. I don't need to think about them, they are just there. I don't know why but I feel that I must share my words and I hope they spark conversations and rouse feelings the people who read them. Some are positive and some are not so. I will continue to share them on my blog and am very open to discussing them with anyone so dont be shy about messaging me if you feel you would like to chat about any of the content. Below are 3 poems I have written recently. Keep you eyes open for more coming soon!
A poem by Me, Nicki Burnett. It doesn't have to be this way.

Just lie back and think of england dear
I am an expert so you have nothing to fear
Open your knees, bring your bum right down
I know whats best so please dont frown
Please lie still dear, your making my job tough
I did a sweep while in there, thats why it felt rough
I know you didnt want it but we need things to hurry
You tried your "natural" things, all the pineapple and curry
I dont have all day and baby needs to come now
A healthy baby is all that matters, it doesnt matter how
Why are you so upset dear?
Maybe you didnt hear
Stop being selfish, do you want your baby to die?
Now you are past your due date the risks are super high
I've told you the risk has doubled, why are you still complaining?
Just let me take control, I dont have time for this explaining
You can have your body back once baby is safely here
Do you know how many babys I deliver each year?
Let me handle all the risks, let me deliver you of this baby
Ok so compassion, respect and empathy have disappeared maybe
Why do you want to go back to birthing like the old days?
Medicine has come so far and clearly knows the best ways.
Just lie back dear, be quiet, dont make a fuss
It'll be over soon, there is no need to cuss
Just do as you are told, dont question or doubt
You don't need to understand, lets just get this baby out
Maternity Voices partnerships
Take a moment to remember the passion that started
you out on this journey, that knowledge imparted
As we all stand together and support each other
The midwife, the doula, the doctor, the mother
Together we are strong, divided we fall
Coproduction is the way we make it better for all
Listen and learn. Think outisde the box
Maternity voices partnerships rock!
